What is PlanGrid?
PlanGrid is an awesome way to view and organize your construction plans on a mobile device. Because PlanGrid is so fast and easy to use, anyone can upload their drawings to PlanGrid.com and publish them to any iPad or Android in the field within a few minutes.
What do I need to use PlanGrid?
To use PlanGrid, all you need is an iPad or Android tablet, a supported web browser, and an internet connection. Although PlanGrid works best on an iPad 3 or Android device with cellular capabilities (so you can email right from the field), you can still use all the features and view all your drawings on any iPad or Android device.
Browser Compatibility
At this time, we support Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari.
--Microsoft has plans to depreciate the Internet Explorer browser in mid-2021, so at this time the browser will no longer be supported by PlanGrid. You may now start to see error messages on the PlanGrid website regarding Internet Explorer and we highly recommend updating to a supported browser.
Microsoft has included the Edge browser as the new default in Windows 10. You can download Edge here if you do not currently have it installed on your device.
--You can download Google Chrome here or Mozilla Firefox here. Chrome is the preferred browser for PlanGrid and many other common services across the web.
--Users of Safari will get the best experience by keeping their host operating system fully updated with the latest performance and security patches.
Whichever browser you choose, It is important to make sure to keep your browser up to date. Even though we don't officially support older browsers, some of the features may remain be useable on certain older browsers but we cannot guarantee full functionality on an out of date browser.
How secure is PlanGrid?
All of our servers are located in Amazon.com’s super-secure data center in northern Virginia. To give you an example of how secure and reliable it is, the same data center hosts Netflix, Newsweek, and the Washington Post. Also, we use end-to-end 256 bit SSL encryption on both our app and the website, so you can rest assured that no one can intercept your data while in transit. As long as you pick a secure password, you will be more than covered.

What is the cost of using PlanGrid?
We have three different plans that vary based on how many pages of drawings you have available in your account, whether uploaded by you or shared with you by another user. Storage for other project documents like specs, submittals, RFIs, and progress photos is completely free!
For information on our different subscription levels and their associated cost, check out our pricing page.
What file formats does PlanGrid support?
PlanGrid supports all PDF files. We do not currently support CAD files, but it's pretty easy to generate PDFs from any file format.
Who made this thing?
The team that made PlanGrid is made up of 2 construction engineers and 2 software engineers whose mission is to solve the construction document control problem. The team started working on the problem around November of 2011, convinced some really smart investors of the value of their idea, and are now working their hardest to make constructing buildings a lot easier. For more about the team check out our bios page.
I was invited to a project but am being asked to upgrade - why do I need to pay for a PlanGrid license?
Each user who needs to access project data within PlanGrid does need an active PlanGrid license assigned to their account. You can upgrade your account individually or have a license assigned to you by your company. If your account is managed by a company administrator, contact them about upgrading your license.
To upgrade your account individually, log in to PlanGrid on a web browser. If your trial has expired, you’ll see a screen asking you which plan you’d like to choose. Click “Subscribe” to enter your payment.
